Title: At 83, Las Vegas Author and Veteran Ray A. Lanfear Introduces Neon Secrets: Murder, Money, and Mystery in Las Vegas, a Psychological Thriller Inspired by True Events
Buffalo, United States, 3rd Nov 2026 - Ray A. Lanfear has lived in Las Vegas since 2007, long enough to know that the city’s brightest lights can make it harder, not easier, to see what is happening right in front of you. At 83, the veteran and retired retail executive has turned that understanding into his first novel, Neon Secrets: Murder, Money, and Mystery in Las Vegas, a work of fiction inspired by true events. The story begins far from the Strip’s marquees, in a quiet retirement community at the edge of the city. When Charlie and Linda Gambino move in down the street, they appear to be retirees looking for sunshine and a fresh start. Charlie is a gifted storyteller who fills every room he enters. Linda is gentle, observant, and easy to overlook. Their new neighbor welcomes them into his life and spends years at their side. What he witnesses does not arrive as one dramatic moment. It builds through casino visits, small compromises, and conversations that seem harmless until they are placed side by side. When Linda’s death comes with an official explanation, he is left holding questions the record does not answer.Rather than lean on courtroom drama or police procedure, the novel stays close to the people on the edges of a troubling situation. Its themes include addiction, manipulation, greed, loyalty, and the warning signs that are easiest to miss. The novel draws on experiences Lanfear and his wife, Judy, shared with their neighbors over ten years. He wrote it in Linda’s honor. In his Author’s Note, Lanfear explains that names and details have been changed and that certain characters, conversations, timelines, and events have been fictionalized, combined, reconstructed, or dramatized to protect individual privacy and strengthen the narrative.
