Houston, TX, United States, 3rd Oct 2026 — BridgeYear, a leading Houston-based nonprofit connecting underserved youth to careers and educational pathways, announced the successful completion of its inaugural Energy Expressway cohort. Out of 30 participating students, 29 earned industry-recognized certifications following two weeks of intensive, hands-on training at CenterPoint Energy’s HO Training Facility—with more than half of the graduates already receiving conditional job offers and additional interviews ongoing.Built in collaboration with BridgeYear's partners, Energy Expressway serves as a model for scalable, employer-driven workforce development. Students completed hands-on training across four high-growth pathways: Renewable Energy, Gas Operations, Lineman Skills, and Electrical Work.To bridge the gap between technical skill and employer expectations, BridgeYear provided a curriculum on workplace preparation. BridgeYear Advisors worked closely with candidates to research employers, map their hands-on training directly onto industry-aligned resumes, and practice communicating their value using the STAR Method.Students put their preparation to the test by participating in 1-on-1 mock interviews with corporate volunteers from CenterPoint Energy, Quanta Services, Inc., Greater Houston Partnership, Hays Electrical Services, Phillips 66, Texas Mutual Insurance Company, and NRG Energy.
