Kankakee, Illinois (IL), United States, 10th Jul 2026 — The Kankakee County Housing Authority (KCHA) announced today that construction has begun on Wildwood Residences, a new 40-unit affordable housing development for seniors ages 62 and older. The approximately $18.3 million project represents a significant investment in expanding quality, affordable housing options for older adults while supporting the long-term housing needs of the Kankakee community.Located at 300 North Wildwood Avenue, Wildwood Residences will replace an existing public housing site with 40 newly constructed affordable rental homes in duplex and triplex buildings. The community will include 30 one-bedroom and 10 two-bedroom apartments designed to promote independent living while providing convenient access to public transportation, neighborhood retail, and other essential community services.Residents will enjoy a variety of modern amenities, including in-unit washers and dryers, granite countertops, soft-close cabinetry, ceiling fans, walking paths, picnic areas, community garden parcels, and energy-efficient building features.
