The ETA allows stays of up to 30 days for tourism, business, or transit, with different validity periods and entry allowances depending on the type of ETA. The Sri Lanka ETA is a certification provided by the Sri Lanka Immigration System which allows individuals of all nationalities to visit Sri Lanka for a short period of time. Several countries require their citizens to obtain an ETA before visiting Sri Lanka for tourism or business reasons. The Sri Lanka Immigration Department officially introduced an Electronic Approval Note (ETA) for individuals planning to have a brief social visit to the Republic of Sri Lanka starting on January 1st, 2012. The Sri Lanka ETA allows individuals to stay in the country for a maximum of 30 days for either tourism or business purposes. Someone who is from another country could extend their visit if they intend to stay longer than 30 days. The initial extension is for two months, the second for three months, and the third can be prolonged for a maximum of three months. Overall, the individual is allowed to remain for up to 270 days beginning from their first day of arrival. The Sri Lanka ETA is processed electronically; there is no need to provide original travel document or additional documents.
